Growlers maul Mariners

The Newfoundland Growlers mauled the Maine Mariners 5-1 on Saturday night at Cross Insurance Arena.

Neither team found the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes as it stayed 0-0 after the first period of play.

After a quiet offensive opening to the contest, Jackson Berezowski, Zach O’Brien and Joe Gatenby rattled off three Growler goals in a 5:55 span midway through the middle frame before Ethan Ritchie responded swiftly for the Mariners to make it a 3-1 Newfoundland advantage going into the third.

Isaac Johnson got credit for a fourth Growlers goal four minutes into the 3rd before O’Brien’s second of the game with 4:46 to go made it a 5-1 final in favour of Newfoundland.
