Growlers lay out Lions 5-3

ST JOHN’S, Newfoundland – The Newfoundland Growlers took down the Trois-Rivières Lions 5-3 on Friday night in front of over 5,000 fans at the Mary Brown’s Centre.

Goals came fast and furious in the first period as Ryan Francis opened the scoring for the Lions with 9:15 remaining in the opening frame before Ryan Chyzowski replied for the Growlers just 25 seconds later.

Francis notched a second 29 seconds after Chyzowski’s tally before Jonny Tychonick and Keenan Suthers struck a minute apart late in the 1st to put Newfoundland up 3-2 after 20 minutes.

Francis completed his hat-trick seven minutes into the second period to even things up at 3-3 going into the third period.

Nolan Walker and Pavel Gogolev grabbed a pair of Growlers goals in the first half of the 3rd to put the hosts ahead 5-3.

Dryden McKay would stop the six shots he faced in the third to secure a 5-3 Newfoundland win and wrap up the North Division title race in the process.

Newfoundland take on Trois-Rivières once again tomorrow at 7pm.
