Growlers hang five on Railers

WORCESTER, MA – The Newfoundland Growlers stuck to the game plan of putting the puck on the net, registering 41 shots in a 5-1 victory over the Railers Saturday night in Worcester.

Brady Ferguson made good on a sweet dish from Kristians Rubins by tipping the puck into a wide-open net and past Railers goalie Mitch Gilliam to open the scoring for the Growlers.

Ivan Kosorenkov responded for the Railers by beating Michael Garteig, who made his 26th start of the season, on a 2-on-1 rush at the 6:09 mark of the first period.

It was all Growlers from the second period on. Sam Babintsev would score short-side on Gilliam to register the eventual game-winning goal about halfway through the second frame. Zach O’Brien added to the second period goal totals with a very skilled display of patience and hands to deke the puck behind Gilliam at 14:48.

Ryan Moore and Scott Pooley scored for the Growlers in the third to seal the victory for the club who have now recorded points in eight straight games.
