Growlers grapple Lions 3-1

The Newfoundland Growlers extended their win streak to five games with a resolute 3-1 victory over the Trois-Riviéres Lions on Saturday evening at the Colisée Vidéotron.

Zach Solow opened the scoring inside the first minute of play as he redirected a Brennan Kapcheck point shot past Joe Vrbetic to make it 1-0 Growlers.

Riley McKay replied for the Lions midway through the 1st with a tidy backhand finish in all alone to even things up at 1-1 after the opening period.

Despite a further 14 Newfoundland shots in the middle frame to make it 30 efforts on goal through two periods, neither side found the scoresheet in the 2nd as it remained 1-1 going into the second intermission.

Axel Rindell put the Growlers back ahead just a minute into the 3rd with a highlight reel end-to-end rush beating every Lion on the ice including Vrbetic to make it 2-1 Newfoundland.

Solow added some insurance with his second of the game in the closing moments to give the Growlers a 3-1 victory on the road.
