KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Newfoundland Growlers snapped a three-game losing skid in a 4-3 overtime win over the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday night at the Wings Event Center.
Keenan Suthers opened the scoring 12 minutes into the first period as he picked up a loose puck in the slot and made no mistake to put Newfoundland ahead 1-0 after one.
Brandon Saigeon tapped home on the powerplay inside two minutes to start the 2nd to equalize 1-1 for the Wings.
After Pavel Gogolev gave the Growlers another lead on a breakaway moments later, Kalamazoo quickly replied with a pair of strikes on the man advantage through Justin Taylor and Max Humitz to snag a 3-2 lead for the hosts.
Nolan Walker brought things back to level four minutes before the second intermission as he finished off a slick 2-on-1 play to make it 3-3 going into the 3rd – a score line which stayed true beyond regulation time.
Gogolev secured both points for the Growlers less than two minutes into the overtime frame as Luke Cavallin sprung the Russian sniper on a breakaway where he made no mistake to give Newfoundland the 4-3 victory.
Newfoundland stay in Kalamazoo for a New Year’s Eve clash with the Wings on Saturday.
