Growlers get past Royals, 4-3 in OT

ST JOHN’S, NL – The Newfoundland Growlers picked up their second victory in as many nights as they took down the Reading Royals 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night at Mary Brown’s Centre.

Colin Felix got the scoring started for Reading eight minutes into the opening period with a seeing eye point to shot to put the Royals ahead 1-0 after the 1st.

Max Newton doubled the Royals advantage five minutes into the middle frame as he beat Lucas Cavallin with a one-timer from the slot to make it 2-0 Reading.

Tyler Boland picked up his second goal in as many nights as he replied a minute later for Newfoundland, making no mistake on a nifty 2-on-1 feed from Zach O’Brien to cut it to 2-1 Reading heading into the third period.

Michael Joyaux levelled things up inside 30 seconds of the third period with powerplay blast to make it 2-2.

After Isaac Johnson briefly put Newfoundland ahead midway through the 3rd with a great solo effort, Felix quickly replied for the Royals to send proceedings into overtime.

Joyaux once again wasted little time starting period off with a bang as he picked up his second of the game 26 seconds into overtime to seal a 4-3 Growlers win.
