Growlers get gutsy 3-2 win over Railers

ST JOHNS, NL – The Newfoundland Growlers finished the weekend on a high note with a 3-2 win over the Worcester Railers on Sunday evening at Mary Brown’s Centre.

Newfoundland outshot Worcester 9-4 in the opening period but Railers netminder Henrik Tikkanen ensured the score remained 0-0 after 20 minutes

Keenan Suthers opened the scoring for the Growlers with 6:26 left in the 2nd as he banged home a loose puck on the powerplay to make it 1-0 Newfoundland.

Jack Quinlivan replied for the Railers just 30 seconds later to quickly bring it back to level at 1-1 heading into the third period.

Todd Skirving gave the Growlers another temporary lead as he finished off a scramble in the Railers crease but Liam Coughlin took just 81 seconds to find a Worcester reply and make it 2-2 in the process.

Brett Budgell would send the crowd home happy as he beat Tikkanen from a tight angle with just over five minutes left in regulation to secure a gutsy 3-2 Growlers victory.
