Growlers get best of Mariners, 5-2

The Newfoundland Growlers made it back to back wins on the road with a 5-2 victory over the Maine Mariners on Saturday night at Cross Insurance Arena.

Zach O’Brien got the scoring started for the Growlers inside five minutes as he deposited a great feed from Zach Solow to make it 1-0 Newfoundland in the early stages.

Just as Brennan Kapcheck put Newfoundland ahead a pair with 5:31 left in the 1st, Connor Doherty grabbed one back for Maine to make it 2-1 Growlers.

Isaac Johnson replied once again less than a minute later to finish off a bouncing puck off the back wall to make it 3-1 Newfoundland before Tyler Boland notched yet another on the powerplay before the first intermission to bring it to 4-1 Growlers after 20 minutes.

Tim Doherty got one back for the Mariners in the middle frame, but Newofundland remained out in front 4-2 going into the third period.

Orrin Centazzo slotted home into an empty net to give the Growlers some breathing room as they walked away 5-2 winners.
