Trois-Rivières, QC – The Newfoundland Growlers dropped a tight contest in a 4-2 loss to the Trois-Rivières Lions on Saturday afternoon at Colisèe Vidèotron.
Connor Welsh opened the scoring for Trois-Rivières just over two minutes into the game as he jumped into the play and beat Dryden McKay high over the glove to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.
Brandon Kruse found the back of the net for the second time in as many games as he buried a rebound 10 minutes later to tie thing up at 1-1 after the 1st.
Both goaltenders stood tall in the second period as neither team could find a breakthrough in the middle frame to bring proceedings into the final 20 minutes tied at 1.
Simon Kubicek broke the deadlock with 11:34 left in regulation thanks to a powerplay blast from the point to give the Growlers their first lead of the game.
Cedric Lacroix leveled it once again five minutes later with a shot through traffic on the powerplay to bring it to 2-2.
Anthony Beauregard struck for the hosts with exactly one minute left to go before Cedric Montminy beat the buzzer into an empty Newfoundland goal to give the Lions a 4-2 win.
