The Newfoundland Growlers knocked off the Maine Mariners 3-1 on Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Arena.
Adam Mechura opened the scoring for Maine with 3:23 left in the first period to make it 1-0 Mariners after 20 minutes.
Alex Koopmeiners equalized for Newfoundland five minutes into the middle frame with a short side snipe to make it 1-1. After spending much of the period on the kill, Neil Shea grabbed the Growlers first lead of the night with a shorthanded tally midway through the second to make it 2-1 for the visitors going into the third.
Todd Skirving sealed it with an empty netter 51 seconds before the end of regulation to make it a 3-1 final in favour of Newfoundland.
