READING, Pa. – The Newfoundland Growlers finished up their regular season in a tough 6-2 defeat to the Reading Royals on Saturday night at Santander Arena.
Isaac Johnson put Newfoundland ahead less than two minutes into the game before Charlie Gerard replied for Reading just 73 seconds later to make it 1-1 inside three minutes.
Zayde Wisdom gave the Royals a lead midway through the first with a hot shot from the point to give the hosts a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Devon Paliani, Shane Sellar and Tyler Heidt all got in on the scoring for Reading in the middle frame to put them ahead 5-1 heading into the third period.
Nolan Walker got one back for Newfoundland in the 3rd before Evan Barratt restored the Royals four goal lead to make it a 6-2 Reading final.
Newfoundland will face either Worcester or Adirondack in the first round of the playoffs.
