Growlers double up Royals, 4-2

READING, Pa. – The Newfoundland Growlers started the work week the right way in a 4-2 win over the Reading Royals on Monday afternoon at Santander Arena.

Isaac Johnson opened the scoring inside three minutes of the first period as he finished off some slick Newfoundland passing to make it 1-0 Growlers early.

Keenan Suthers doubled the Growlers lead ten minutes later with a nifty shorthanded finish for a 2-0 Newfoundland lead just after the midway mark of the first.

Alec Butcher got one back for the Royals with five minutes remaining in the 1st before Adam Dawe sniped one off the rush before the opening intermission to make it 3-1 Newfoundland after 20 minutes.

Charlie Gerard hopped on a loose puck in the Growlers zone just 48 seconds into the middle frame to get Reading within one.

Todd Skirving restored the Growlers two goal lead as he chipped home a powerplay goal to make it 4-2 after 40 minutes.

Luke Cavallin stopped all 13 shots he faced in the third period to help secure a 4-2 Newfoundland victory.
