Growlers claim 6-3 win over Lions

ST. JOHN’S, Newfoundland – The Newfoundland Growlers made a wild end to the middle frame count in a 6-3 win over the Trois-Rivières Lions on Sunday evening at Mary Brown’s Centre.

D-Jay Jerome opened the scoring for the Lions five mintues into the middle frame with a snipe off the far post under the glove of Luke Cavallin to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

After a frustrating start to the contest, Newfoundland opened the offensive floodgates with three goals in 37 seconds late in the second period to jump out to a 3-1 lead as Zach O’Brien, Zach Solow and Keenan Suthers found the back of the net.

Ryan Francis would get the Lions back within one two minutes before the second intermission before Jack Badini restored the Growlers two goal lead with a hot shot two minutes into the third period to make it 4-2 Newfoundland.

Francis nabbed another for Trois-Rivières with a rocket on the powerplay to cut it to 4-3 Growlers with 10:37 left in regulation.

Orrin Centazzo found the empty net twice in the dying moments to lock up a 6-3 Newfoundland victory.

Newfoundland stay home to host the Worcester Railers for three games starting on Wednesday night.
