WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Utah Grizzlies (16-8-2-0) defeated the Colorado Eagles 6-3 Saturday night at Maverik Center.
“Our guys are buying in, and we’re learning how to play the right way, and how to play consistent,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham.
The win is the Grizzlies seventh-straight win at Maverik Center as they swept their third-straight weekend series at home.
“We have a good group of hard working guys,” said captain Brent Gwidt. “They pay attention to details. Our D played well to get shots through. Tim does a great job of managing the bench and keeping the guys going.”
The Grizzlies got goals from six different skaters in the contest as T.J. Syner, Ryan Walters, Roberts Lipsbergs, Alex Krushelnyski, Brent Gwidt and Barry Almeida all scored.
“We played really well with the puck and obviously our power-play was top notch tonight,” said Branham. “We have a lot of talent out there, and if we make the right plays and play the right way, we’ll score a lot of goals.”
Utah led 2-0 in the first period, before Colorado tied the contest at two with a couple goals off of Utah breakdowns. Utah scored on their second-straight power-play to make it 3-2 with 1:41 left in the first period. They made it 4-2 on their third-straight power-play goal with 5:53 left in the second period.
Utah went three-for-six on the power-play on the day, scoring on three-straight power-plays at one point as they went three-for-three on the penalty-kill.
“It’s a lot harder for the goalie when there’s traffic in front, you can’t see the pucks from the point,” said Walters. “Special teams are huge in any game.”
The two teams traded goals in the third on captain Brent Gwidt’s first of the year off of a rebound before Colorado added a shorthanded goal four minutes later to make it 5-3.
Ryan Faragher stopped 23 of 26 shots on the game to improve to 11-1-1-0.
