Grizzlies blank Eagles, 4-0

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Utah Grizzlies (15-8-2-0) defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-0 Friday night at Maverik Center.

Over 800 Teddy Bears were tossed onto the ice following Jason Binkley’s first goal of the season 2:02 into the second period after a scoreless first period in which Utah outshot Colorado 13-3.

“Six straight wins at the Maverik Center now; the boys love to play here,” said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. “I thought we did a good job clearing loose puck and winning battles.

We played a pretty smart game.”

Grizzlies goaltender Ryan Faragher stopped all 21 shots that he saw to improve to 10-1-1-0

“The boys are happy. We have Ryan [Faragher] back and he’s a big part of our team. He’s played great down here; he’s good teammate and a great locker room guy. The thing about Ryan is that he makes the key saves; when maybe you had a breakdown or the other team made a good play, he makes those key saves. Marty Brodeur was good at that – making those key plays when your team needs you. That’s what he does for us.”

Binkley took the puck from behind the net and wrapped it home from Shayne Taker and Brent Gwidt.

“Getting the first goal in a Grizzlies uniform is pretty special,” said Binkley. “We’ve really found a rhythm here. We’re getting comfortable.”

Utah made it 2-0 7:20 into the second period as T.J. Syner walked in on an up ice pass from Corey Fienhage. Matt Berry also picked up an assist on the play as he scored for the 19th time in 21 games.

4:37 later, the Grizzlies made it 3-0 as Erik Higby picked up a puck in the Utah zone and navigated past several Colorado skaters up the length of the ice for his fifth goal of the year.

Ryan Walters (9) scored into an empty net with 3:05 remaining to finish the scoring.
