WICHITA, Kan. – The Utah Grizzlies (6-3) defeated the Wichita Thunder (4-2) 5-3 Saturday night at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita.
Utah fell behind 1-0 early in the first period on a Wichita power-play but rebounded to score three-straight to take a 3-1 second period lead. Colin Martin (2) tied the game hacking in a rebound in front and Erik Higby (3) did the same to give Utah a 2-1 first intermission lead. Ralph Cuddemi (2) scored on a power-play breakaway in the second period to make it 3-1 Utah as goaltender Ryan Faragher got the puck moving up ice.
Wichita cut the lead to 3-2 and 4-3 as the Grizzlies made it 4-2 on the first ECHL goal by Travis Howe with 2:39 left in the second period. The Thunder trimmed the lead back to a goal with 2.7 seconds left in the second period.
Kenton Helgesen tipped in a Tim Daly shot from the point 7:24 into the third period to make it 5-3 and that would be the final.
Grizzlies goaltender Ryan Faragher improved in 5-1 in the contest as he stopped 21 of 24 shots in the game.
Utah outshot Wichita 43-24 in the game and went 2-4 on the power-play.
Including Faragher, 11 Utah players recorded at least a point in the game. Tim Daly (two assists), Kenton Helgesen (one goal, one assist) and Evan Stoflet (two assists) all had multiple-points in the game.
