Greyhounds off and running

READING, Pa – When listening to XM satellite radios’ NHL Home Ice channel (204), former Sault Ste. Marie Greyhound alumni Phil Esposito can be heard on almost a daily basis reminiscing of his time playing for “The Soo”. Well, you can bet “Espo” is proud of his former team these days as the Greyhounds are off to a 7-0-0 record, and are the only team, besides the Kitchener Rangers, in the OHL that are undefeated. The big question is, how are they doing it? The Greyhounds do not have a single scorer in the top 20 scorers. What they do have, however, is the top two goaltenders in the league statistically. Bryce O’Hagen and Robin Lehner are ranked 1 and 2 respectively. The Greys have only allowed 14 goals in 7 games. The offense has scored 27 goals and are led by James Livingston with 5 goals and 3 assists. Overall, Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers leads the league with 11 goals and 20 points. The next three top scorers belong to last seasons Memorial Cup champions, the Windsor Spitfires who are led by who should become this years tp draft pick in the NHL, Taylor Hall. He is second in the league with 17 points. Teammates Adam Henrique and Greg Nemisz have 14 points each.
The Spitfires and Greyhounds are both ranked in the top 5 of the CHL, which makes up the OHL, WHL, and QMJHL. The Calgary Hitmen are currently ranked first overall, with the Spitfires ranked second. The Greyhounds are fifth.
The season is young, and hockey is officially in full swing, with the exception of college hockey in the US. Still, somewhere, You gotta think that for the time being at least, the man they call Espo is smiling somewhere, even if it is just October.
