LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Golden Knights completely dominated game one against the Sharks with a final score of 7-0 giving Marc-Andre Fleury the shut-out as well. Las Vegas leads round two of the Western Conference finals after one game. This game was entirely different than the first round, as both of these teams finished the first round in a four-game sweep, however the Sharks only allowed four goals for their opponent in all four games, while the Golden Knights scored seven in this first game.
Any thought that the break may have caused the Golden Knights to slack off was quickly dissolved when they took an early 4-0 lead only 12 minutes into the game. Cody Eakin finished a shot blasted off a shot from the blue line from Brayden McNabb that beat Martin Jones in the Sharks net. Erik Haula scored 26 seconds later, only 4:57 into the period. Only a few minutes later Jonathan Marshessault broke up a play in the neutral zone and raced towards the net, with a quick wrist shot, sending the puck to the back of the net. Alex Tuck scored goal number four, when he raced through traffic, right up the slot to wrist the shot past Jones.
Las Vegas extended their lead only 3:28 into the second period when Shea Theodore scored, ultimately chasing Jones out of the Sharks net in favor of Aaron Dell. Dell managed to change the Knights momentum blocking any thing else they threw at him.
The third period saw a more desperate Sharks team, plagued by more penalties, including Evander Kane with a major cross-checking penalty that ultimately led to their sixth and seventh goal of the night. The first one from Colin Miller, the other from James Neal as he finished a long shot sending the puck between Dell and the post only seconds before the penalty ended.
At least eleven players on the Golden Knights team scored a point during the much-tilted game.
San Jose Sharks are going to try to shake off this game, as they come back for game two on Saturday night.
