On Monday night, the New York Rangers hosted the Vegas Golden Knights and had a chance to take their five-game point streak out for a drive and try to extend it.
Instead, Vegas came like a it was track meet and and scored twice in the first period to end any hope for the Rangers.
“We just weren’t ready to play at that pace to start,” Rangers head coach David Quinn said. “We looked sluggish right from the get-go.”
That’s just not acceptable.
Alex Tuch scored two goals in the first period for Vegas as they made the Rangers look like a minor league squad.
Malcolm Subban made 29 saves in the win.
Brendan Lemieux had the only goal against Subban.
Reilly Smith and Max Pacioretty also scored for the Golden Knights (14-11-4).
“Hopefully we’ve got a streak here, but you’ve got to battle every night,” Vegas head coach Gerard Gallant said. “If we keep playing like that we’ll get more Ws.”
The Rangers power play has gone impotent over the last week and was scoreless n six chances on Monday.
“We just gave them a gift and that really changed the momentum of the game,” Quinn said.

Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves in the loss.
“It comes down to special teams, not getting it done on the PK,” Lundqvist said. “They made two good plays, but we need to find a way there. … I need to find a way to make that extra save.”
