In Las Vegas, The Golden Knights trailed the Dallas Stars by two goals just ahead of the midway point of the third period.
The Knights rallied with three straight goals for a 5-4 win Wednesday night.
The win ended the Stars’ seven-game winning streak.
“It’s a tough way to lose, no doubt,” Dallas’ Joe Pavelski (two goals) said. “But there were some areas that we’re pretty good at that we weren’t good at tonight.”
Robin Lehner got the start for Vegas, but was given the hook after the Knights surrendered three power play goals. Lehner made seven saves.
“You feel for the goalie because you can’t hang that all on him,” Vegas head coach Peter DeBoer said. “That’s a last resort for me; I don’t pull goalies very often. I just felt it was the right things to do tonight.”
Laurent Brossoit made 12 saves in the Vegas win.
The three goal outburst started with Michael Amadio who cut the Dallas advantage to 4-3.
Mark Stone’s second goal of the game tied the match, 4-4, at 14:47.
“I think last game was the way we wanted to play as well. Playing a good team in [the] Calgary [Flames on Sunday, a 3-2 win], knew that it wasn’t going to be an easy one,” Stone said. “But coming back, battling that adversity was huge for our team and hopefully can kickstart something big finishing off this homestand.
Max Pacioretty potted the game-winner at 15:54.
Jason Robertson opened the scoring in the first period to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.
Tyler had a single marker in the game for a 2-1 lead to Dallas, but could have had a second that would have made all the difference. He missed a wide open net after Pavelski had made it 4-2.
“I just looked at the boys and kind of had that feeling that we were going to find a way to get it done,” Stone said. “Those kind of things are critical in a game that can go either way. He buries that goal, I think the bench gets pretty down and it’s a huge hill to climb.”
Braden Holtby made 39 saves in the Dallas loss.
“Special teams obviously were huge. Goaltending was great; 5-on-5, we just didn’t have the energy that we normally play with,” Bowness said. “Simple as that.”
