Golden Knights pull ahead in series 2-1 against the Sharks

STOCKTON, Calif. – Game three saw the Sharks coming unglued.  Mark Stone’s hat trick and a pair of goals by Paul Stastny  helped the Golden Knights to a 6-3 final.  The Golden Knights lead the Sharks in the series two games to one.

The Golden Knights scored only 16 seconds into the game, on a shot off of Mark Stone.  A power play by Las Vegas, led to Max Pacioretty scoring their second goal.  Kevin Labanc scored his first of the post season to close the gap to 2-1, when his shot beat Marc-Andre Fleury at 15:26.

Las Vegas answered the goal, only 21 seconds into the second period, when Paul Stastny scored his first of the post season to extend the Golden Knights lead 3-1.  At 16:04 Stastny scored again, when his shot, on a power play beat Martin Jones in the net.

The third period began, much like the others, with an early Golden Knights goal, putting them up 5-1.  The goal was Mark Stones fifth of the post season.

The Sharks finally found a way to get the puck past Fleury on a power play, when Logan Couture’s shot across the ice was tipped in by Brayden McNabb in front of the net. The goal was followed by another within a minute, when Timo Meier drove the puck deep along the boards, then wristed the shot to the back of the net.  The Sharks came within two goals. Stone’s hat trick goal came with 6:03 remaining, putting the Golden Knights up by three.

Only two minutes remaining and Evander Kane and Ryan Reaves dropped the gloves for a quick go around, but it wasn’t enough time to really change the game.  It appeared to be more of a warning for the next game.

Stone has scored a goal in all three games to date.

The next game will be in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, where the Sharks will be looking to come back from this single game deficit.
