On The Strip, Shea Theodore was credited with the deciding marker on penalties as the Golden Knights survived the Montreal Canadiens in a 3-2 win.
Adin Hill made 37 saves in the win.
Vegas improved to 9-0-1.
“We got 19 out of 20 points, so to me, that’s pretty good. We’re not going to push that aside or overlook it,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “We haven’t always looked our best, and I’ll be the first to say that. Tonight included. But it’s not easy to win.
“A lot of different guys scoring. Tonight, it’s Cotter and Carrier and we get points. It’s not relying on the top guys. Our top guys are probably struggling a bit to get points to the table. We’ll need that eventually.”
The two teams exchanged goal for 60 minutes, with Vegas taking a 1-0 lead on a power play marker from Paul Cotter at 15:06 of the first period.
“We worked on it quite a bit. We know our power play is a shooting power play,” Cotter said. “So just get pucks to net. That’s how it is. So get it to the net and bounces will happen.”
Sean Monahan knotted it at 1-1 for the Canadiens at 5:38 of the middle frame.
“It’s a mistake. I just whiffed on the pass there,” Hill said. “Outside of that one mistake, I felt like I had a good game. It’s just reminding yourself, ‘Hey I feel good.’ I know my team has my back. We got another goal shortly after that.”
William Carrier restored the Vegas lead, 2-1, at 18:10 of the second.
Nick Suzuki tied the game, 2-2, at 15:43 of the third to force extra time which solved nothing.
“Probably our best game of the year,” Suzuki said. “Best game in a long time. We just didn’t win. That’s how it goes sometimes.”
Sam Montembeault made 23 saves in the loss.
