Golden Knights and Sharks tie the series

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Game two was an exciting matchup, beginning with three quick goals from the Golden Knights, followed by three from the Sharks, but ultimately ending up with Las Vegas in the lead with the 5-2 win. The teams are tied at 1-1 for the series.

A series of mistakes made by the Sharks allowed the Golden Knights to get an early 3-0 lead in game two. The Golden Knights opened the scoring with a goal only 58 seconds into the game. Martin Jones stopped a shot off Max Pacioretty. But the puck went to the back of the net, where it was sent back out to the slot for the goal by Cody Eakin. Sharks had over a minute of 5-on-3, but Marc-Andre Fleury held them off. With Deryk Engelland in the box for a delay of game penalty, Collin Miller scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 4:37, when he came out of the penalty box, to intercept a Sharks pass and rushed down the ice to beat Jones in the net, putting Las Vegas up by 2. Pacioretty scored his second goal less than two minutes later, when his off angle shot from the boards beat Jones. This would be the last goal against Jones, as he was pulled in favor of Aaron Dell.

Logan Couture found a way to put the sharks on the board, when Joe Pavelski’s pass across the slot to Couture who dropped the puck up and over Fleury’s outstretched leg.   Only 40 seconds later, Erik Karlsson’s slap shot from the blue line to the back of the net brought the Sharks to within striking distance again.   Joe Thornton tied the game with just under a minute remaining in the period, when Brenden Dillon’s shot was re-directed into the back of the net.  The two teams were knotted at 3-3 going into the first intermission.

Only a minute into the play, what appeared to be a Sharks Goal by Logan Couture, turned out to be waved off by officials, and ultimately became an interference penalty.   This lead to the power play goal by Mark Stone at 1:31 into the period, giving the Golden Knights the lead again.

The Golden Knights pulled ahead again in the third period, when William Karlsson scored a shorthanded goal putting Las Vegas up by two.

Sharks pulled Dell in favor of the empty net with just under three minutes remaining, while Las Vegas was down a skater. But still were not able to get anything past Fleury. At the final whistle, a melee broke out, but in the end, the final score would remain at 5-3.

The teams are even at 1-1, and game three promises to be an exciting one, as both teams head to Las Vegas on Sunday.
