UNITED KINGDOM – Goalies put pen to paper around the Elite League as four clubs sign up the men between the sticks. New boys Braehead Clan go for experienced Elite League goalie JF Perras whilst Dundee, Edinburgh and Newcastle look further afield.
Former Edinburgh and Coventry netminder has re-joined the Elite League with new side Braehead Clan after a season away with Arizona Sundogs, where despite playing only 20 games due to injury, Perras led the Sundogs goaltenders with a .891 save percentage.
Widely regarded as a standout goaltender with Edinburgh Capitals, Perras enjoyed wavering form backstopping Coventry Blaze to second spot two years ago, but statistically was the 2nd best save percentage in the league. Elsewhere, Dundee Stars have opted for American netminder Jerad Kaufmann who spent last season with Quad City Mallards in the IHL. Kaufmann posted a .917 save percentage in 38 games with the Mallards in his first full professional season having spent four seasons with the University of Nebraska-Omaha in the NCAA with equally impressive figures. Meanwhile, further down the M8, Scott Reid has put pen to paper with the Edinburgh Capitals. 33 year old Reid has a long history in the CHL with numerous appearences in the AHL, spending last season with the Alaska Aces in the ECHL posting a .900 save percentage in 38 games with the Aces who also featured former Edinburgh favourite Colin Hemingway, now with Belfast Giants.
With all the netminders now signed, it looks like a reasonably even year between the sticks in the Elite League with quality netminders behind all 10 teams.
