Goalie duel ends in shootout win for Blackhawks

In Chicago, a goalie exhibition ended with Corey Crawford making 40 saves in a 3-2 win for the Blackhawks over the Arizona Coyotes after the skills competition.

“We’re battling for a playoff spot, and that was probably the most exciting game of this year,” Crawford said. “It was a good job by our guys not to panic after they came back.”

Brandon Saad  scored both regulation for the Hawks who are 6-0-1 in their last seven.

“The excitement is high; we’ve been winning, we’ve had a stretch of wins, and any time you’re winning you feel good,” Saad said. “It’s going to be a tight race all the way out, so we’re taking it game by game and collecting as many wins as we can.”

Brad Richardson and Connor Garland rallied the Coyotes back from an 0-2 deficit.

“It was up for grabs, it was there for us and, unfortunately, we didn’t grab it,”  Taylor Hall said. “It’s tough. As a team, we probably don’t have the confidence we had 20 games ago.”

Antti Raanta made 43 saves in the loss.

“We can’t have four, five six guys pulling zeroes every night, you just can’t, or we’re not going to go anywhere,” Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. “Our team is built around 20 guys, and we can’t have just 13 guys playing, it’s impossible to win. … We can’t have four or five guys not there, it’s as plain as day.”
