Gill shines in 5-1 Americans win

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Allen Americans ended their four-game losing streak on Friday night, beating the Utah Grizzlies, 5-1 at Maverik Center in front of 6,463.

Riley Gill was the star of the night stopping 40 of 41 shots including 38 straight, as the Americans were outshot by the Grizzlies 41-20 for the game. Gill put on a clinic in the second period stopping all 18 shots he faced.

Chad Costello scored two goals, his 3rd and 4th of the season. Costello’s second goal was a power play goal as the Americans scored with the man-advantage for the second game in a row.

The victory was Allen’s 300th franchise win. Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson moved closer to 900 wins with number 898.

“This was a huge win for us tonight,” said Americans forward Greger Hanson, who scored his team-leading 7th goal of the year. “Riley was unbelievable in net and we made the most of our opportunities.”

The Americans and Grizzles play again on Saturday night at 8:05 PM.  Allen improved 2-4 on the road this season, picking up their first win away from Allen Event Center since October 29th.
