The Anaheim Ducks have been needing a big game, from anyone on the roster. It has not been an issue of lack of effort but rather one of timing and injuries and the vagaries of sport.
Wednesday night night, the Ducks’ John Gibson made 40 saves to provide that big effort in a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins.
Josh Manson and Nick Ritchie drove much of the offense with a goal and two points each in the win.
“Playing Boston, I knew he would bring his ‘A’ game,” Manson said of Roy. “I told him I thought he would get his first.”
Gibson held the firt in the second period when the Bruins out shot the Ducks, 15-3, but managed two goals off those three shots.
“That was one of our better periods most of the year,” Boston head coach Bruce Cassidy said.
Kevin Roy and Derek Grant also scored for the Ducks.
“You’re always desperate for wins in this league. We’re banged up right now. We have a lot of injuries. We’re trying to get through it and come out on the good side,” Manson said.
Danton Heinen and Noel Acciari scored for Boston who have dropped four straight and now site at 6-7-4 on the season.
“I thought we had a really good second overall,” the Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk said. “There were a couple plays there that they capitalized on. It was a lead we couldn’t get back.”
Anaheim improved to 8-7-3.

Tuukka Rask made 23 saves in the loss.
“We haven’t been scoring a lot lately, and those goals have been tough to come by. We can’t afford to have any unlucky bounces against us, and today we had a couple. We have to try to limit our errors and play as solid as possible,” Rask said.
