Gibson, Ducks shut out Wild

On Monday night in Anaheim, John Gibson made 34 saves and blanked the Minnesota Wild, 1-0.

“Everybody stepped up,” Gibson said. “Especially on the penalty kill, blocking shots.”

Nicolas Deslauriers scored in the fifth minute of the third period for the game’s only goal.

“He (Gibson) just looks so calm and so square and so big in the net,” Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins said. “I always think, when a goalie is playing really well, he makes big saves look really easy, and that’s certainly what he looked like tonight.”

The Wild were scoreless in five power play chances.

“We have to score on that,” Minnesota’s Zach Parise said. “It’s three games now and we haven’t got anything. We are moving the puck around fine. We are getting time in the zone. We have to get the results, especially in a game like this.”

The Minnesota loss came after two straight wins in Los Angeles over the Kings.“We’re trying to score, believe me,” Minnesota’s Matt Dumba said. “We want it to go in the net. Sometimes it just doesn’t happen like that. We have to put our heads down and get to work.”

Cam Talbot made 26 saves in the loss.

“We *Gibson) were kind of going back and forth,” Talbot said. “You knew it was going to come down to a goal when the goalies are playing like that. He got the best of me tonight.”
