In Anaheim, the Ducks special teams scored once off a shorthanded situation and twice off the power play to drive Anaheim to a 4-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.
John Gibson made 28 saves for the Ducks shutout.
Ryan Getzlaf inched closer to the 1,000 point mark with a goal and three points on the night.
Anaheim moved to 4-4-3.
“We didn’t have the hands,” New Jersey head coach Lindy Ruff said. “Sometimes, when you don’t have your legs, you don’t have your hands. There were plays to be made, we just didn’t make them.”
Troy Terry struck twice for the Ducks, he now has a nine-game point streak.
“He’s playing with confidence,” Gibson said. “When he plays with confidence, you can see it in his game. He’s confident with the puck, he’s making plays.”
New Jersey dropped to 4-3-1.
Anaheim has 10 power play goals this season (11 were scored last season).
“You need it to win hockey games,” Anaheim head coach Dallas Eakins said. “We scored so few goals last year and we thought, ‘OK, that’s a spot where we can grab some extra goals and close the gap on that goal differential.'”
Isac Lundestrom scored the Ducks shorthanded goal in the third period for the 4-0 final.
“Anytime guys are putting the puck in the back of the net and guys are producing, it runs throughout the team,” Gibson said. “Everyone is going right now, and hopefully we can keep it going.”
Jonathan Bernier made 23 save in the New Jersey loss.
“We got off to a great start in the game,” Ruff said. “Came out with a lot of energy, skated well, we had the first two or three chances in the game to take the lead.”
New Jersey’s Dougie Hamilton left the game after one period for an apparent lower-body injury.
“No update,” Ruff said. “I know he talked to the trainer after the first (period). We were hoping he was going to be able to come back, but he wasn’t able to return.”
