Gibson, Ducks blank Coyotes

In Glendale, John Gibson made 31 saves and the Anaheim Ducks shut out the Arizona Coyotes 1-0 on Tuesday night.

“[Gibson] is a great goalie but we’ve got to get in front of the net, try to get some shots through, some hard shots,” Arizona head coach Rick Tocchet said. “We had the puck a lot tonight, but you’ve got to find a way to support it. Bottom line, we need some guys to score some goals.”

Danton Heinen had the only goal of the game in the first period.

“I mean he’s (Gibson) unbelievable. It shows why we have so much confidence in him back there,” Heinen said, who shut out the Minnesota Wild 1-0 on Jan. 18. “He just keeps you in games. He’s a special goalie.”

The Ducks improved to 3-2-2.

“We just can’t continue like this where we have to have him give an A-plus performance every night. I know it’s his goal,” Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins said. “We hope it’s sustainable. But the law of averages say we’ve got to play better in front of him.”

Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves  in the loss.

“We ran into a hot goaltender,” the Coyotes’ Lawson Crouse said. “We’re getting chances, it’s just about capitalizing. We’ve got to do our best not to get frustrated and just keep at it. They’re going to go in eventually.”
