Giants edge Devils in Cardiff – rematch tonight in Belfast Hockey returns to northern hemisphere in preseason tilt in the EIHL

Belfast Giants came away with a 3-1 win from the season’s first exhibition match against Cardiff Devils at Ice Arena Wales on Friday night.

In front of a sellout 3,100 crowd, Colby McCauley scored the lone goal of period one to put the Giants ahead. Joey Martin tied the game at 34:29, but the Giants were back ahead at 49:45 – Ciaran Long putting the puck past Ben Bowns who tried to read the pass after the Devils were caught out after a penalty kill and unable to change.

Mark Cooper found the empty net with 11 seconds remaining to make it a 3-1 win for the Giants.

The two teams meet again this evening at the SSE Arena, Belfast.
