Nottingham Panthers were beaten 4-1 by Belfast Giants in Northern Ireland on Saturday night.
Brendan Harris returned to the line-up after being out of action since the 3-0 victory at Manchester Storm on 13th December.
Mitch Fossier missed-out through injury while Johnny Curran, Jason Grande and Jakob Stridsberg were the healthy scratches. Kevin Carr started between the pipes with Luca Sheldon as back-up.
Giants lead after first period
Carr denied both JJ Piccinich and Ryan Smith on breakaways within the first two-and-a-half minutes and also saved Ben Lake’s close-range effort.
For the Panthers, Matt Marcinew hit the side-netting and Jackson Whistle stopped Nolan Volcan when he broke clear of the Belfast defence.
The hosts took the lead when Marcus Eriksson won the face-off and fed Ryan Smith to score from the high slot (10:21).
Belfast increase advantage to three
Jordan Kelsall and Chase Pearson had good chances for the Panthers in the second period, before the Giants took control with two goals in 36 seconds.
Strong work by Lake set-up Reid Irwin (34:29) and Marcus Eriksson reacted first when the puck rebounded off the backboards (35:05).
Kelsall on target but Giants take the points
Carr saved Jordan Kawaguchi’s effort from point-blank range as Belfast looked to add to their tally.
Tim Doherty, Bryan Lemos, Didrik Henbrant and Matt Spencer had chances in the third session, before Marcinew set-up Kelsall to score from the left-circle (58:05).
Smith wrapped the game up for the hosts when he scored into the empty net from his own zone (58:43).
