Generals dominate in 6-3 win over IceDogs

St. Catharines, Ont., – It was a flying first line that was the difference at the Meridian Centre on Friday night, leading the way for a 6-3 Generals road win over the Niagara IceDogs.

Less than a minute into the game, Calum Ritchie scored his third of the season to get the scoring started for Oshawa. The first period scoring would continue thanks to Stuart Rolofs’ and Luke Torrance’s second goal of their seasons. The Generals finished the opening frame up 3-0 and outshooting the home side 16-4. Former IceDogs Dylan Roobroeck and Cameron Butler both recorded assists in the first twenty minutes.

The second period did see the IceDogs get on the board, but the momentum quickly shifted back to the Gens with two more goals in the period. Cameron Butler tipped home a laser shot from the slot while Ben Danford scored the first of his OHL career off another deflection in front. Ritchie and Roobroeck would record assists on both goals.

Niagara would add two goals of their own in the final period, including a nice play from former General David Jesus to set up Pamo Fimis’ first of the season. As the IceDogs began to ramp up the pressure, Stuart Rolofs would make a gorgeous play at the Niagara blueline before setting up 16-year-old Beckett Sennecke for his second goal of the season, and Oshawa’s 6th of the night.

Patrick Leaver was strong in net once again for the Generals, standing tall when he was needed on a busy offensive night in front of him, stopping 32/35 shots faced.

Oshawa would sweep the three stars via Calum Ritchie, Beckette Sennecke and Patrick Leaver respectively. The top line of Ritchie, Butler and Roobroeck recorded nine points, three each, in the win.

The Generals now move to 3-0-0-1 and take on the Hamilton Bulldogs tomorrow night, Saturday, October 8th at 7:00 p.m.
