INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indy Fuel (7-3-1-0) are a perfect 5-0 at home after a 3-2 shootout victory over the Alaska Aces (4-8-0-2) on Saturday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
The Aces struck quickly to open the game at 1:19 on Tyler Maxwell’s first of two goals on the night, but the Fuel rallied to tie the game just under seven minutes later. Kyle Stroh tucked his own rebound between the pads of Aces goaltender Troy Redmann (32 saves) at 8:09 with assists going to Nick Mattson and Peter Schneider.
In the second period Cody Sharib moved the Fuel ahead at 6:43 when he deflected a Ben Marshall shot past Redmann to make it 2-1.
Maxwell would tie the game just 1:04 into the final frame when he picked off a clearing pass in the slot and beat Mac Carruth (27 saves) low to the stick side to tie the game one last time.
From there both teams had opportunities but each goaltender held fast. Carruth in particular made several spectacular stops in the game including stopping a shorthanded breakaway in the second period and two quick rebound chances in the third to help the game reach OT and then a shootout.
The shootout went four rounds deep before Daniel Ciampini scored the only goal in the extra session to give the Fuel the win.
