INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Indy Fuel (3-2-1-0) scored in bursts Friday night with goals coming 1:07 and 2:00 apart en route to a 4-2 win over the Fort Wayne Komets (4-1-0-0) Friday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Josh Brittain led the scoring for the Fuel with two goals including the first of the game at 13:45. Indy defenseman Ben Marshall saw Brittain streaking down the slot and feathered a pass to him that he only needed deflect over the left shoulder of Spencer Martin (24 saves) to make it 1-0.
Just 1:07 later Cody Sharib extended the lead to 2-0, putting home the rebound of a Dillon Fournier shot.
The Komets managed to tie the game on goals from Drew Daniels and Jordon Southorn but the Fuel would once again register a pair of goals quickly to put the game out of reach. After a turnover deep in the Komets zone during a Fuel penalty kill, Peter Schneider ripped a shot past Martin from the high slot at 16:57 for Indy’s first shorthanded goal of the season and a 3-2 lead.
After killing off the power play the Fuel struck again two minutes later when Brittain and Marshall hooked up in similar fashion to the night’s first goal for the final margin of victory.
Shane Owen marked his 75th professional game with a win, making 27 saves for the victory.
