INDIANAPOLIS, IN – In their second and final game of the weekend, the Indy Fuel hosted the Atlanta Gladiators for the season series finale. The two teams finished the opening period locked at one goal apiece but Indy would score five straight goals and cruise to a 6-1 victory on Saturday night.
Scoring 54 seconds into the game, Josh McArdle fired a wrist shot from the point beating Gladiators goaltender Chris Nell. Atlanta’s highest goal scorer, Samuel Asselin beat Charles Williams with a wrist shot from the faceoff dot, tying the game 1-1.
Indy took a 2-1 lead early in the second period when Ryan Van Stralen walked out in front of the net and put the puck over the shoulder Nell. Spencer Watson doubled the Fuel lead picking up a loose puck in the Gladiators zone and wristing the puck past Nell, making it 3-1. Receiving a centering pass from Nathan Noel, Alex Rauter would put the Fuel up 4-1 heading into the locker room.
Scoring their fifth goal of the game, Watson would combine with Derian Plouffe on a 2-on-1 in the middle of the third, making it 5-1 for the Fuel. Liam Coughlin would pounce on a power play rebound late in the third, giving indy a 6-1 lead and the eventual win over the Gladiators.
The Fuel return to the ice on Thursday, January 30th when the Kalamazoo Wings pay a visit to the Indiana Farmers Coliseum at 7:05 p.m.
