Francouz, Avs shut out Ducks, 2-0

In Anaheim, the Colorado Avalanche’s Pavel Francouz made 34 saves on Wednesday night in a 2-0 win over the Ducks.

“The way the game was going from the start, it looked like it was going to be a tight game, and this was exactly the same scenario like [the first shutout against the Ducks], when we scored late in second and we battled through it in the third,” Francouz said. “So it was just the exact same game.”

Colorado improved to 26-8-3.

“I thought his performance was excellent tonight,” Colorado head coach Jared Bednar said. “He just seems to be getting better and better the more he plays, so he was a big part of that one tonight because I didn’t think we were at our best from the defensive side of it.”

Anaheim has four straight.

“I commend our guys,” Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins said. “It’s not often you feel good about a loss, but there is some good in this one.”

The Ducks fell to 19-16-7.

After a scoreless first period, Samuel Girard  put the Avs up, 1-0, with a strike at 18:28 of the frame.

Nazem Kadri sealed the win late with an empty-net goal.

“Just trying to stay focused, just trying to stay ready,” Kadri said. “I think it’s easy to get sidetracked, especially with such a long season.”

John Gibson made 26 saves in the Ducks loss.
