The Anaheim Ducks needed a win, any win and they got one Sunday despite giving up a late goal to the Columbus Blue Jackets to force overtime.
Cam Fowler collected his third third goal of the game with just 36 seconds gone in the extra session for a 3-2 win.
The goal also completed a hat trick for Fowler.
“It was a product of being in the right place at the right time tonight and I’ll take it,” Fowler said. “The main thing is our team found a way to win the game and get off this losing streak.”
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Ducks who improved to 6-6-3.
John Gibson made 24 saves to get the win.
“We’ve played much better in the last three hockey games. If we stick with it, we can see our team grow,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said after the game.
Pierre-Luc Dubois scored both goals for the Blue Jackets and tied the game with under a minute left in regulation.
“Three points out of six on a California trip is not bad,” Dubois said. “Not what we wanted, but it’s far from the worst thing possible.”
Columbus dropped to 7-6-1 with the loss.
“Anytime you’re down late like that and you tie it up in the last minute, that’s huge to get that point,” Columbus defenseman Ryan Murray said. “It shows a lot of character from our guys that are out there to bear down and get that done for us.”

Joonas Korpisalo made 27 saves in the loss.
“We got some guys that don’t feel good about themselves, so we have to build them up,” Columbus coach John Tortorella said of his team after the loss.
