Fournier, Summerhays lead Aces past Evansville 4-1

ANCHORAGE, Alaska  – Defenseman Gleason Fournier scored two goals and goaltender Steven Summerhays made 26 saves to lead the Alaska Aces to a 4-1 victory Saturday over the Evansville IceMen at the Sullivan Arena.

Fournier gave Alaska (6-11-0-2) a 1-0 lead with a first period backhand rebound goal off a shot from Justin Breton. It was Fournier’s third goal of the season. That goal would hold up through the end of the second period until the Aces went to work in the third period.

Newcomer Collin Valcourt sniped his first Aces goal at 4:10 of the third, zipping the puck over the shoulder of Evansville (5-10-0-0) goaltender Cody Reichard into the top corner. A minute and a half later defenseman Garrett Haar scored a power play goal to make it 3-0 Alaska. Evansville’s Tyson Fawcett spun a beauty of a backhand shot that leaked through Summerhays on the power play at 9:33, but Fournier ended any thoughts of an Icemen comeback by blasting in his second goal of the game, fourth of the season, at 13:27.

Summerhays finished with 26 saves, Reichard 42 as the Aces outshot Evansville 46-27 for the game.

The two teams will play the third and final game of the series Sunday afternoon at 3:05pm Alaska Time. Evansville won the opener 4-2 Friday.
