In Las Vegas, the Calgary Flames scored the final five goals of the game on Thursday night to hand the Golden Knights a 7-2 loss.
Blake Coleman scored his first of a double in the middle frame to snap a 2-2, to send the game to the third period with the Flames holding on to a 3-2 lead.
In the third, the Flames burned Vegas with four more, unanswered goals in the win.
Mikael Backlund, Coleman, Tyler Toffoli, and Dillon Dube scored in an eight-minute stretch of the third for the 7-2 final.
Toffoli also hit for a pair of goals in the win, and four points.
“It’s fun. Obviously, things have been pretty good and I’ve been pretty consistent,” Toffoli said. “I came in the season wanting to prove something. I’m trying everything I can to try and win games. Tonight was obviously a good night.”
Jacob Markstrom made 17 saves in the Flames win.
“It feels good winning here,” Flames forward Mikael Backlund said. “Being a part of all the losses here, it feels really good to finally win here and break that record, spell whatever you call it. It feels good to see Winnipeg lose and get closer to a playoff spot. We know we still need to be more consistent and play a lot better every night, but tonight was a big game for us and a step forward.”
Calgary improved to 31-24-14.
Calgary grabbed a 1-0 lead late in the first period on a marker form MacKenzie Weegar .”Nice to see it go through,” Weegar said. “I’m sure it was probably 45 miles per hour, but it’s nice that it went through.”
Toffoli scored his first of the night early in the second period for a 2-0 lead to the Flames.
“We got in our own way tonight in a lot of different ways,” Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said. “Our power play was ‘fill in the blank.’ I’ll settle for awful because that’s what it was, and it had a chance to be a difference maker tonight.”
The Knights rallied to tie it, 2-2, on goals from Zach Whitecloud and Reilly Smith.
“You got to have push back on this team,” Coleman said. “They’re a good team. They’re going to have their pushes. Obviously, you don’t want to blow a two-goal lead isn’t the way you want it. We were able to respond tonight. That’s been big. It’s been missing in our game a bit in the past. From there, it was a great third and the guys did a good job.”
Vegas dropped to 42-21-6, and had a four-game winning streak snapped.
“Obviously, we’ve had trouble in third periods putting teams away,” Coleman said. “From start to finish, we did a pretty great job tonight making sure we didn’t take our foot off the gas. It’s two big points for us and we’ll take and get out of here.”
Jonathan Quick made 23 saves in his first loss since joining the Golden Knights over the trade deadline.
