The Mustangs weren’t there to give the game away on a plate though, and knew they had a lot of time left to get back one early goal, something they managed relatively quickly, Invicta captain, Thomas Dennis earning the assist on Jake Luton’s goal.

The play went back and forth, neither team really dominating, until, Campbell struck again, another assist from Murray, Will Crossley getting the second assist on this goal.

Less than a minute later, Murray himself found the back of the net, helped by Facey and Campbell, which saw the first period close with the Devils 3-1 in the lead.

Crossley picked up a penalty for interference, and while he was sat in the penalty box, Devils captain, Alex Cole received a two minute penalty for slashing.

With the two Devils watching from the sin bin, they witnessed a 5 on 3 that saw the Mustangs pick up one of the dropped goals, releasing Crossley back to the ice while making the score 3-2.

Thirty seconds later, with Cole still in the penalty box, Facey helped Campbell earn his hat trick, giving the Devils a more solid lead once more.

Smelling blood in the water, the Devils then began to press much harder, Murray and Facey once more with assists, this time Kieran Annis firing the shot from the blue line, under Lucy Gruber stood in the Mustangs goal.

Campbell’s fourth came in minutes later, Rhys McCormick providing the single assist, sending the teams to the second break with the score board showing 6-2 to the Devils.

The third period started, and it took just twenty four seconds for the board to be changed, McCormick with a goal of his own as D-man Mason Wild picked up an assist.

As Mark Pitts sat in the penalty box, Facey picked up the puck from an intercepted pass, and went on a breakaway, earning the Devils second short handed goal of the evening, while earning himself an unassisted goal to make it 8-2.

Speaking after the game, when asked about the season he is having and the amount of points he is accumulating, Facey said “I’ve got good line men, I’m playing with Alex [Murray] and with Drew [Campbell], Drew’s a goal scorer, you get him the puck and nine times out of ten he’s going to put the thing in the back of the net.”

Alex Murray finished the evening, buy dropping hints over a possible new signing this week, in time for Peterborough Phantoms to visit this coming Saturday, face off at the Gosport Arena, 5pm.
