Nothing is ever easy but the Philadelphia Flyers made some noise Sunday with a convincing 6-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins,
“You look at it one game at a time,” Flyers defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere said. “We win. It takes care of everything else. We just control what we can control right now. That’s winning games.”
The win pushed the Flyers to within six points of the wild card spot currently held by the Boston Bruins.
The schedule is wreaking havoc with the Pens who lost for the third time in four days, 0-2-1.
“The reality is every team in the League is playing the same schedule,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. “It’s not just us.”
Steve Mason made 25 saves to get the win as the Flyers improved to 35-32-8.
Matt Cullen gave the Pens an early 1-0 lead but the Flyers responded with four straight goals from Jordan Weal, Valtteri Filppula Dale Weise and Jakub Voracek.
“I’m just trying to go out every night and give it my best shot,” Weal said. “My game is to create opportunities offensively and spend as little time [in the defensive zone] as possible. I try to do that every night. Consistency is key.”
Radko Gudas and  Gostisbehere scored late in the third period to ice the game.
“Guys are in a pretty good rhythm here the last week. … Guys were focused, yet relaxed,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said of his team after the win.
Patric Hornqvist scored to break the Flyers’ string of goals but it was too little too late.

Matt Murray made 27 saves in taking the loss as the Pens dropped to 46-18-11.
“They had the momentum pretty much the entire game,” Murray said. “For a lot of the time they were really swarming in our end zone. … Just one of those games that we didn’t get the bounces and things didn’t go our way.”
