PHILADELPHIA – The Flyer lost their seventh game of the last eight matches on Thursday night, 4-3, to the Washington Capitals.
Trailing 3-2 headed to the third period, Washington’s Lars Ehler tied the game, 3-3, at 6:23.
Jakob Chychrun scored at 12:05 to hit for the game-winner for the Capitals.
“Just a great pass from ‘Carly,'” Chychrun said. “Tried to make eye contact with him and had my stick up in the air, was kind of letting him know I was open. He had to thread it, and he sure did. Great play by him.”
Charlie Lindgren made 19 saves in thee win.
“It’s the same story as the whole year, where we come in and we’re all looking at each other like we’re going to find a way to get this done,” Lindgren said. “Sure enough, that’s what we did.”
Matvei Michkov scored the first of a pair on the night in the first period to give the Flyers a 1-0. lead.
Alex Ovechkin tied the game, 1-1, with 53 seconds left in the opening period.
Connor McMichael restored the Caps lead in the middle frame with a tip-in.
The Flyers then rallied for a pair of goals to take the 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Tyson Foerster tied teh game, 2-2, and Michkov hit for his double for the 3-2 advantage headed to the third.
“They’re a good team,” Foerster said. “They’re first in the League I’m pretty sure. Thought we played a [heck] of a game. Just a couple breaks here and there.”
Ivan Fedotov made 14 saves in the loss.
