Flyers stop Detroit, 2-1, in OT PHN's Best Shots of the Game

PHILADELPHIA — The Flyers Rasmus Ristolainen scored with 26 seconds left n extra time on Tuesday night to defeat the visiting Detroit Red Wings, 2-1.  The win extended the Flyers point streak to six games.

“Right now we’re feeling pretty good about our game so we just try to stay in there and keep working,” Ristolainen said.

Samuel Ersson made 27 saves in the win.

“‘Ers’ has steadied himself and looks so much more confident,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “He’s not busy. When I evaluate Ers in my mind, just watching him play, when he’s not busy and the puck is hitting him, you can tell he’s there.”

After a scoreless first period, Joel Farabee, who helped set up the OY winner, scored early in the middle frame to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.  l

“Watching my previous games before [being scratched], something I wanted to focus on, and [general manager] Danny [Briere] talked to me about, was getting to the inside and trying to make plays through the middle and not just staying on the perimeter,” Farabee said. “I’m not really going out there and doing anything crazy different, but just the idea of when I don’t have the puck try to get to the net and try to get on the inside, and I got a couple lucky bounces.”

Ben Chiarot scored with 30 seconds gone in the third period to tie the game, 1-1, for Detroit.

“It was huge,” Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. “Especially my line [with Raymond and Marco Kasper], we didn’t have the best second period, but we got out there and got on the forecheck and that was an emphasis coming in after the second. Get on the forecheck, make their [defensemen] turn and that’s exactly what we did, and we got rewarded for it.”

Detroit dropped to 21-21-5.

“We had our 2-on-1 with 40 seconds left, they had their 2-on-1 with 20 seconds left. Unfortunately, they scored,” Red Wings coach Todd McLellan said.

Alex Lyon made 24 saves in the loss.
