PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Flyers played a strong game after losing their starting goalie, Michal Neuvirth, with less than eight minutes gone in the game.
Neuvirth collapsed in his crease and did not appear to be moving for a considerable period of time. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher and transported to hospital for
observation.
The Flyers reported later he was awake and alert.
After that, the Flyers got back to business with Anthony Stolarz relieving Neuvirth and helping the Flyers to a 3-0 win over the lackluster New Jersey Devils.
“[Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol] had a good talk saying, ‘You can’t control what the other teams ahead are doing. You just have to worry about ourselves and try and put pressures on those teams, to keep winning,'” Flyers right wing Colin McDonald said.
McDonald was one of three Flyers to score including Brayden Schenn and Jordan Weal.
For Weal, it was his fourth straight game with a goal.
The Flyers kept their slim hopes alive with the win as they remain six points back of the last playoff spot in the east.
“He (Stolarz) didn’t get to the rink and probably have his gear on until the drop of the puck, so [that] shows his maturity and like I said, just real good solid poise going in there in that situation, especially under those circumstances.” Hakstol said.
The Devils who dropped to 27-37-14 it was another dreary loss, their eighth shutout of  the campaign.
New Jersey has also lost six straight and are a dreadful 2-14-4 in their 20 games.
“We weren’t competitive enough in the first period and getting to our game,” New Jersey coach John Hynes said. “I thought we did a better job in the second and third periods. We’ve got to be a little harder than we were.”

“We are all incredibly frustrated, but there’s no excuses. There’s just wins and losses in this game. We picked up another loss and there’s no excuse for it,” Blake Coleman said of the Devils.
