Monday night in Glendale, Claude Giroux made sure the Arizona Coyotes did not extend their win streak to six games.
Giroux scored twice as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Coyotes, 5-2.
The Flyers ended their road trip with a 3-0-1 record.
“We’ve had our ups and downs but we were able to push hard this road trip,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said. “Obviously it’s an important time of the year for us, so now we go home and have the opportunity to keep pushing.”
Calvin Pickard made 34saves to get the win.
“We thought before the road trip it could be good for us, get on the same page and play as a team and we did a really good job of that,” Giroux said. “The whole team played well. It’s fun to finish a road trip like this.”
Alex Galchenyuk and Michael Grabner scored for the Coyotes who dropped to 7-6-0 with the loss.
“I think it’s huge we put five wins in a row, built some momentum and feel good about ourselves but, at the same time, we still have some stuff we can do better on the ice,” Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson said. “We have a lot of confidence in the group right now, obviously we didn’t get the result we wanted but let’s bounce back.”
Shayne Gostisbehere, Sean Couturier and Oskar Lindblom also scored for the Flyers.
“We’ve got to build on this road trip and climb in the standings. … We got away from distractions, focused on our group and stuck up for each other and battled hard for each other. Guys weren’t afraid to make mistakes and, if it happened, guys had our backs,” Couturier said after the win.
