Flyers rebound with road win over Ottawa

In Ottawa Wednesday night, Jakub Voracek struck twice for the Philadelphia Flyers in a 7-4 win over the Senators.

The victory was a night after a dismal loss on home ice to the San Jose Sharks.

“Sometimes it’s good when you can get on the road after a tough game and play another game the next day,” Voracek said. “We took advantage of it. Obviously, it was a tough start at home for us, but we scored seven here and I think we played a pretty good hockey game.”

Calvin Pickard made 31 saves to get the win as the Flyers improved to 2-2-0.

Claude Giroux scored for the Flyers, Scott Laughton potted two goals and Robert Hagg and Sean Couturier added single markers in the win.

“I’m not going to take any negatives tonight. This is a hell of a pushback win on a back to back when [we were] coming off a real miserable night in our own building,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said after the game.

Brady Tkachuk, picked up his first two career NHL goals for the Sens.

“The first one, it’s not something I was dreaming of, off the skate and in,” Tkachuk said. “But to have the second one go in, it was pretty cool, pretty exciting.”

Maxime Lajoie also scored twice for Ottawa.

“I thought [my] first game against Boston I was just all right. Just kind of getting used to the pace, but learned a lot and I’m just trying to apply it every time I’m on the ice. I just want to get better and I want to keep learning. It’s nice, but I feel like I can do even more,” Tkachuk said of his game thus far this early season.

Craig Anderson made 38 saves in taking the loss.

“We’re scoring plenty,” Anderson said. “I think we just need to trust that we’re going to get the three goals that we need – three or four goals, whatever it might be that night – and just try to buckle down a little bit better.”
