Maxim Tsyplakov #7 of the New York Islanders celebrates his goal against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The two goals were his first with the Flyers.

“It felt nice,” Zegras said. “The fans are so great. To do it front of them is special for sure. … It was a big win for us back at home and we want to be a tough team to play here, so pretty fired up about that.”

Christian Dvorak also scored for the Flyers in regulation.

Samuel Ersson made 23 saves in the win.

“Not really too surprised with this team and this locker room,” Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale said. “It’s what we were talking about between periods — close game and we’re going to win the game. ‘Ers’ came up huge for us with a bunch of big saves that kept us in the game, and coming out on top was real nice.”

The Islanders held a 2-0 lead early in the match before the Flyers rallied.

Simon Holmstrom hit for a shorthanded marker, and Anthony Duclair extended the lead to 2-0 early in the middle frame.

“I thought he played really well,” Islanders coach Patrick Roy said. “He had, what, a couple of apples (assists)? So, he played a really good game. I was happy for him. Played really well.”

After the Flyers rallied to knot the game, 2-2, the Islanders reclaimed the lead on a strike by Maxim Tsyplakov  early in the third period.

Zegras forced the extra session with a goal at 7:32, tying the game, 3-3.

“That’s a big goal, Trevor digging in the crease and getting that goal,” Philadelphia coach Rick Tocchet said. “It’s hard. You’re blocking out the noise and it’s hard to do, but he stuck with it. That’s what’s got to happen.”

Ilya Sorokin made 23 saves in the loss.
