Flyers rally for OT win over Detroit

PHILADELPHIA – With just over a minute left in regulation Wednesday night, Mark Streit scored the game-tying goal for the Philadelphia Flyers to force overtime with the Detroit Red Wings.

Streit’s goal made it 3-3 and capped a rally from an early two-goal deficit.

“We’ve got to stop doing this,” Claude Giroux said. “It’s getting too old. We need to find a way to have better starts.”

The Flyers rallied to tie the game at two all before Henrik Zetterberg  put the Wings up 3-2 in the third.

Chris VandeVelde and Roman Lyubimov also scored for the Flyers in regulation.

In extra time, Jakub Voracek  was the hero as he converted on a 2-on-1 break with Giroux for the winner.

“The [defenseman] came at me, and I told myself if he comes at me and goes down, I’m going to pass it across,” said Giroux, who extended his NHL career-high point streak to 10 games with the assist. “Ended up pretty well.”

Michal Neuvirth  had 22 saves in the win.

Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou scored 16 seconds apart in the fist period to give the Wings the early lead.

“We came out a lot better today,” Zetterberg said. “Had a really good first I thought, played a solid first period. Then they came back. They were strong in the second. I

thought it was pretty even in the third. We played a little bit better. But unfortunately, it tied up.”

Petr Mrazek  had 36 saves in the loss.

“Pretty disappointing,” Mrazek said. “You’re up 3-2, a minute left in the game, very disappointing.”
