Flyers rally, defeat Bruins in shootout

PHILADELPHIA – A three-goal lead was not enough for the Boston Bruins on Monday night.

The Philadelphia Flyers rallied for three goals in regulation and then snuffed the Bruins in a shootout, 6-5/

Charlie Coyle #13 of the Boston Bruins battles Matt Niskanen #15 of the Philadelphia Flyers in front of Goalie Carter Hart #79.

Travis Sanheim scored his second goal of the night in the third period to get the teams even and force extra time.

“Throughout the season, you are going to have games where you find yourselves in holes, and good teams find a way to battle back and get a point,” Sanheim said. “And we got two in the shootout.”

Carter Hart made 26 saves in the win.

David Krejci struck twice for the Bruins.

Anders Bjork, Charlie Coyle and David Pastrnak added single makers for the Bruins.

“That was one of those games where we should have taken control and kind of played strong enough to finish it,” Zdeno Chara said. “It’s something that we’ve got to correct. We’ve got to be better next time we have a lead like that. Make sure we finish.”

Joakim Nordstrom #20 of the Boston Bruins tackles Joel Farabee #49 of the Philadelphia Flyers as Bruins Right Winger Chris Wagner #14 moves in against Flyers Connor Bunnaman #82

Sean Couturier, Connor Bunnaman and Kevin Hayes  also scored for the Flyers.

“We’ve got three different guys circling out of there; it’s inexcusable,” Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said of the game-tying goal. “You’re in the third period, you’ve got a lead that’s gotten away from you … no compete in front of the net, no urgency to keep the puck out of the net from three of our players.”

Travis Konecny struck for the only score in the skills competition.

“It’s a big positive for us,” Konecny said. “We went through a little stretch where we were struggling, so to come back against a team like this, it puts us right up there. We know we can win against these teams.”
